update_project_metadata

Update a project's surfaces and git remotes: a list you send replaces that whole list, omit a list to keep it, include id to keep an item. Surfaces reference remotes by remoteUrl (auto-added to remotes). Never send local folder paths. If the user is working inside a VSCode workspace and a <workspace>/.bilg/bilg.config.json exists, prefer that file's projectName over the API key's default project.

A3.9/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

With no annotations, the description carries the behavioral load and does so well: it discloses the destructive replace-whole-list semantics, the side effect that `remoteUrl` is auto-added to remotes, and the constraint against local folder paths. It omits auth/permission requirements and what happens to surfaces dropped from the list, but the key mutation risk is surfaced.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loads the update target and replace semantics in the first two clauses, then layers constraints. Dense but no filler; the trailing VS Code workspace/config-file sentence is operationally useful though slightly out of tone with the rest.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a 4-param mutation with no annotations and no output schema, the description supplies replacement semantics, side effects, input prohibitions, and project-selection precedence — enough for an agent to call it without guessing at destructive behavior.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is only 50%, and the description compensates by defining the replace-vs-preserve semantics of the two list parameters and the `id`-to-keep convention. It also clarifies that `remoteUrl` values are auto-added to `remotes` and adds a selection rule for `projectName` beyond its schema default note.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

Names a specific verb (update) and resource (a project's surfaces and git remotes), which is clearly distinct from get_project_metadata or update_document_metadata in the sibling list. It doesn't explicitly contrast with siblings, but the resource is unambiguous enough that an agent can select it.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives strong in-tool guidance (omit a list to keep it, include `id` to keep an item, prefer the workspace config's projectName), but frames it as how-to rather than when-to. There is no explicit statement of when to reach for this tool versus get_project_metadata or update_document_metadata, leaving the routing inference to the agent.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
