BatterySnap

Fleet totals

fleet_totals
Read-onlyIdempotent

Live fleet-wide counters: total devices, models, snapshots, sessions, the running snapshot-ingest rate (snapshots/sec) and the timing of the last insert batch. Use this for one-shot 'how big is the dataset / how fast is it growing' questions. Unlike fleet_summary, no per-device aggregation is involved — these are raw running counts from the database.

A4.7/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare readOnlyHint, idempotentHint, and openWorldHint=false, so the safety profile is covered. The description adds genuine behavioral context beyond that: the values are live/running rather than cached, they are raw database counts, and one of them is the timing of the last insert batch — useful for judging freshness. It stops short of describing staleness windows or refresh cadence.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Three tightly packed sentences. The enumerated counters are front-loaded, the usage condition follows, and the sibling differentiation closes it out — no sentence is filler.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

An output schema exists, so return-shape explanation is not required, yet the description still names each counter so the agent knows what to expect. For a zero-parameter read-only tool with full annotation coverage, nothing an agent needs to invoke it correctly is missing.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

The tool takes zero parameters, so there is nothing for the description to disambiguate; baseline 4 applies. The description correctly adds no parameter noise.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

Names a specific resource (fleet-wide counters) and enumerates exactly what is counted: devices, models, snapshots, sessions, ingest rate, and last batch timing. It explicitly contrasts itself with the sibling `fleet_summary`, so an agent can separate the two without opening a schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

States the triggering question type ('how big is the dataset / how fast is it growing') and names the alternative (`fleet_summary`) plus the condition that distinguishes them (per-device aggregation vs. raw counts). Both when-to-use and when-not-to-use are covered.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
