Conecto Website chat

Set up the website chat

chat_setup
Idempotent

Create or change the business's website chat widget, which you answer: each visitor message reaches you as a chat.message_received event (subscribe a webhook to it, or use chat_wait) and you reply with chat_reply. Or answer_with webhook: your own brain (your server, n8n, Flowise) gets each message as a signed POST and its reply goes to the visitor at once. Or answer_with model: a model on the business's own key answers, with instructions and knowledge you give. Conecto pays for no model in it. Only the fields you pass change. A model without its key (none kept, or a new provider), or the keys named in ask_owner_for, come from the owner: the answer is a link where they type them on a Conecto page, so they never pass through the chat (from_a_terminal does the same from a terminal), and nothing changes until they do (account.credential_added says when). The reply has the HTML snippet to put on the website. $0.05 per conversation, charged on the visitor's first message; messages and replies are free. Costs $0.001 per call; nothing if it fails.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
nameNoThe business name.
colorNoAccent colour, e.g. #1a73e8.
modelNoThe provider's model name, e.g. gpt-5.4-mini or claude-sonnet-5-5; for azure the deployment name. It must support tool calling.
websiteNoThe website it goes on.
greetingNoThe first line visitors see.
languageNoWidget language, e.g. en, de.
knowledgeNoanswer_with model: facts it answers from (prices, delivery, opening hours). Replaces what was given before; empty removes it. The published help center is used as well.
agent_nameNoThe name your replies are signed with, e.g. "Acme Support".
experienceNochat: the classic chat widget. beside: Beside, which also tells you the page the visitor is on (its address, title and text) with each message. Same price.
answer_withNobot (the default): you answer through events and chat_reply. webhook: each visitor message is POSTed to webhook_url and its reply goes to the visitor at once. model: a model on the business's own key answers (model_provider, model, model_api_key).
cant_answerNoWhat the chat says when your webhook or model gave no reply; it then asks for the visitor's email. Needed for languages other than en, de, es, fr, it, nl, pt and sv.
webhook_urlNoYour brain's https endpoint for each visitor message.
instructionsNoanswer_with model: how the model answers (tone, scope, what to offer), in the business's words.
ask_owner_forNoKeys the owner types on a Conecto page: the answer is a link, and nothing changes until they do.
model_api_keyNoThe business's API key for model_provider. Kept encrypted, never shown again; its usage is billed by the provider to the business.
rotate_secretNoMake a new webhook_secret (the old one stops working).
webhook_tokenNoSent as Authorization: Bearer, for brains that want a key (Flowise, n8n header auth). Empty removes it.
model_base_urlNoazure only: the resource's address, like https://acme.openai.azure.com/openai/v1/.
model_providerNoWhose model answers with answer_with model.
starter_questionsNoBeside: up to 3 questions visitors can tap to start.

TDQS

A4.8/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Beyond the annotations, it discloses billing ($0.05 per conversation, $0.001 per call, free messages/replies), partial-update semantics, owner-credential flow via a link, secret rotation behavior, and the fact that nothing changes until the owner provides missing keys. These are high-value operational traits not available from `readOnlyHint`, `idempotentHint`, or the schema alone.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

It is front-loaded with the purpose and mode choices, and most sentences add necessary setup, billing, or credential context. It is a dense single paragraph rather than well-structured prose, and the sentence "Conecto pays for no model in it" is briefly confusing, but the overall length is proportionate to a 20-parameter setup tool.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a complex setup tool with 20 optional parameters and no output schema, the description covers the main operational modes, cost model, credential handoff, partial-update behavior, and the returned HTML snippet. An agent has enough context to call it without needing to infer major behavior.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is already 100%, so the schema carries most parameter documentation. The description adds useful cross-parameter meaning: how `answer_with` selects `model_provider`/`model`/`model_api_key`, how `ask_owner_for` triggers the owner link flow, and that only passed fields are changed.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description names a specific verb and resource: "Create or change the business's website chat widget." It immediately distinguishes the three answering modes and names sibling interactions (`chat.message_received`, `chat_wait`, `chat_reply`), so an agent can tell what this tool does and how it relates to chat runtime tools.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

It gives explicit mode-selection guidance: use `answer_with: bot` for event/chat_reply handling, `webhook` for a signed POST to your own server, or `model` for a model on the business's key. It also explains that unset fields do not change, which is critical for deciding between initial setup and partial updates.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
