List bank lines

books_bank_lines
Read-onlyIdempotent

Imported bank lines, by default those still to match, oldest first, each with up to three suggestions of what it was: entries already booked (same amount, close in date), an open invoice it pays (money in) or an open supplier bill it pays (money out), or the account earlier lines from the same party went to. Suggestions are plain rules; you decide, with books_match_bank_lines (pass a suggestion's match as it is). A first suggestion with sure: true is one the books are sure of (a bank rule, or the number and the exact amount, well ahead of any other); such lines can be matched together in one call. Free.

TDQS

A4.1/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

With annotations already confirming readOnlyHint/idempotent/non-destructive, the description adds real value: default filtering to unmatched, oldest-first ordering, the fact that suggestions are heuristic rules rather than decisions, and the meaning of 'sure: true' including that such lines can be matched in bulk. It does not discuss pagination behavior (limit/offset defaults) or what an empty suggestion list means.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded with the resource and default behavior, and nearly every clause carries information (sort order, suggestion types, match handoff, sure-flag semantics). The opening sentence is dense and comma-spliced, making it slower to parse than necessary, but there is no filler.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

No output schema exists, and the description compensates well by explaining the suggestion structure and the sure flag. For a 6-parameter read tool with 50% schema coverage, the gap is pagination and how non-default statuses change the result set.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 50% — from/to and account are documented in the schema, but limit, offset, and the status enum are not. The description covers the status default ('those still to match') implicitly, which helps, but gives no guidance on pagination or on switching to matched/ignored/all. Baseline 3 is warranted since the schema does part of the work.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource ('Imported bank lines') along with scope ('by default those still to match, oldest first') and the shape of the payload (up to three suggestions per line). It also names the downstream sibling books_match_bank_lines, so an agent can tell it apart from books_import_bank and books_apply_bank_rules without opening any schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Explicitly frames this as the inspection step before books_match_bank_lines and notes that suggestions are 'plain rules; you decide,' which clarifies the division of labor. It also implies the default filter (unmatched lines) which is the common entry point. It stops short of an explicit 'use this instead of X when status=matched' statement, but the routing is clear.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
