Set the account budget limit

gpucloud_set_budget
Idempotent

Sets the monthly budget limit of the account. Lowering the limit (or setting one where there was none) applies at once. Raising or removing it needs the owner's approval: without confirmationToken it returns the change and a token; call again with the same arguments and the token once the user approved. Raising the limit does not restore hibernated servers. (permission: billing:budget) [Requires a free GPU Cloud account and MCP key]

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
alertPercentNoAlert e-mail threshold, percent of the limit (default 80).
dailyLimitCadNoOptional DAILY budget limit in CAD (calendar day America/Toronto), null to remove it, omitted to keep it.
monthlyLimitCadYesNew monthly budget limit in CAD, or null to remove the limit.
confirmationTokenNoToken returned by the previous call (valid 10 minutes, single use). Only needed to raise or remove the limit.

TDQS

A4.7/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Goes well beyond the annotations (readOnlyHint=false, destructiveHint=false, idempotentHint=true): it discloses the asymmetric approval requirement for raises vs. lowers, the retry protocol, the required permission scope (billing:budget), the account prerequisite, and the non-obvious side effect that raising a limit does not un-hibernate servers.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Four dense sentences, front-loaded with the core behavior, then the approval nuance, then the caveat and permissions. No filler or repetition of the title.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a mutation tool with no output schema, the description covers the mutation semantics, the two-phase approval flow, the return-and-retry contract, and prerequisites — enough for an agent to invoke it correctly without extra inference.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so the baseline is 3, but the description adds value beyond the schema by explaining the confirmationToken's role in the two-call flow (retry with the same arguments) rather than just restating its format limits.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource ('Sets the monthly budget limit of the account'), immediately distinguishable from the sibling gpucloud_get_budget which only reads it. The scope (monthly limit, daily limit, alert threshold) is clear from the first sentence.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Explicitly describes the when-and-how: lowering applies at once, raising/removing requires the confirmationToken round-trip with the same arguments after user approval. It does not name gpucloud_get_budget as the read alternative, which keeps it short of a 5.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
