Strapi: Update entry

strapi_update_entry
Destructive

TDQS

A4.9/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Adds substantial context beyond annotations: on v5 only the draft is written (live untouched), on v4 an update to a published entry changes live immediately, Dynamic Zones are replaced wholesale (no merge), stale component ids cause 400s, and only fully-populated reads round-trip losslessly. This is exactly the destructive/irreversible detail the destructiveHint alone cannot convey.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded with the core purpose and the v5 draft caveat, and every block carries real information. It is long and reads as one dense paragraph, which hurts scanability for a five-parameter tool, but little could be cut without losing necessary caveats.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Given nested data, an output schema, and no annotation-level parameter detail, the description covers the version differences, localization, dynamic-zone round-trip workflow, single types, and error shapes that an agent needs to call it correctly.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters5/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

With 0% schema coverage the description fully compensates: entry_id is documentId on v5 vs numeric id on v4, locale defaults silently to the default locale, collection must be an API-ID (not plugin routes) or returns invalid_collection, workspace is optional for single-workspace setups, and the data payload's block/media/dynamic-zone semantics are spelled out.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb+resource ('Einen bestehenden Strapi-Eintrag aktualisieren') and immediately distinguishes behavior from siblings like strapi_publish_entry, strapi_get_entry, and strapi_replace_text. An agent can tell exactly what this does and what it does not (write live).

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Explicit routing: use strapi_replace_text for a single text/link change, use strapi_publish_entry to go live, use strapi_unpublish_entry beforehand on v4, always pass locale on i18n content types. Names alternatives and the conditions that select them throughout.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
