Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

The annotations already declare readOnlyHint=true, destructiveHint=false, and openWorldHint=false, so safety is covered. The description adds one genuinely useful behavioral fact: the numbers cover only trips that have already occurred, excluding planned/upcoming ones. Beyond that it discloses nothing about aggregation window or scope, so a 3 is appropriate.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

One sentence, front-loaded with the metric-scope claim and then the enumerated fields. No filler. Slightly dense colon-list style, but every element earns its place.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With an output schema present, the description needn't explain return values, and annotations carry the safety profile. What remains is a zero-parameter read tool whose purpose and data scope are both stated, so an agent has enough to call it correctly.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

The tool takes zero parameters and the schema is empty, so there is nothing for the description to clarify; baseline 4 applies. The description correctly signals that no filtering input is expected.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific resource (aggregate travel statistics) and enumerates the exact metrics returned: trips, countries, cities, flights, distance, days away, home vs away. An agent can immediately tell this is the aggregate-summary tool rather than any of the per-trip siblings, though it never names an alternative explicitly.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The phrase 'trips that have happened' hints at the scope of the data but the description never says when to reach for this tool over list_trips, get_trip, or search_photos. No exclusions or preconditions are stated; the agent must infer that this is the dashboard-summary call.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
