Get folder analytics

get_folder_analytics

Returns aggregated analytics for a folder across every video inside it. By default the numbers cumulate through subfolders (matching the analytics dashboard's folder view); pass include_subfolders=false to limit the rollup to uploads filed directly in this folder. Response includes per-platform breakdown, per-video breakdown (one row per upload with its own summed metrics), and folder-level totals. Use list_folders to look up a folder_id.

Numbers come from the locally-cached analytics (post_analytics), not a live platform fetch.

Dashboard parity note: same caveat as get_workspace_analytics. Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube slices sum cached per-post metrics and may under-report vs. the ShortSync dashboard, which fetches account-level insights live for those three platforms. TikTok match the dashboard exactly. That's why folder totals can differ from the dashboard's own folder view for Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.

by_platform only contains platforms the analytics pipeline actually fetches; other platforms have no metrics, not zero engagement.

hidden_platforms_no_analytics lists the unsupported platforms that do have posts in the folder (Telegram, Discord) with the post count, which are excluded from the breakdown. X and Google Business Profile rows show 0 when X has no API key added or for Google Business posts (Google has no per-post stats).

Analytics coverage: per-post analytics exist for YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn (Company Pages), Threads, Bluesky, Pinterest (business accounts), Snapchat, Mastodon, Pixelfed, Reddit and Tumblr (Pixelfed, Reddit, Tumblr, Bluesky and Mastodon report no view counts). X has analytics only when the workspace has added its own X API key in Settings > Integrations (X bills each post read to the user's X developer account); without one, X posts come back unavailable with that reason. Google Business Profile has profile-level stats only (no per-post numbers). Telegram and Discord have no analytics at all.

by_video still includes every published post regardless of platform. Low numbers on a fetched platform can come from a connection that needs reconnecting; list_platform_connections shows that state.

Freshness: if the workspace's analytics were last synced over an hour ago (or never), this call also starts a background sync and reports it in the response's sync field (status started or in_progress, plus last_synced_at). The numbers in that response are from the previous sync; call again in a few minutes for fresh ones. sync.status of free_plan_limit or daily_limit means no sync could run, so the numbers may not be current.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
daysNoOptional lookback window in days, counting from now. Omit for lifetime. Max 365. The window is based on the post's published_at.
folder_idYesThe folders.id to summarize. Get it from list_folders. The user must be a member of the folder's workspace.
include_subfoldersNoWhen true (default), sum metrics through every descendant folder. When false, only include uploads filed directly in this folder.

TDQS

A4.6/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

The description goes well beyond the annotations by disclosing that data comes from locally cached analytics rather than a live platform fetch, explaining dashboard parity caveats, unsupported platforms, X API key requirements, and background sync behavior. This is exactly the kind of behavioral context an agent needs before calling a tool whose annotations alone would not reveal these operational traits.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The description is front-loaded with the core purpose and main subfolder behavior, and it uses clear paragraphs for caveats, platform coverage, and freshness. It is fairly long and some platform coverage details are verbose, but most sentences carry useful behavioral context rather than filler.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Given the tool's complexity, the 100% schema coverage, and the absence of an output schema, the description is highly complete. It explains the response shape, per-platform and per-video breakdowns, platform-specific limitations, and sync freshness behavior, leaving little ambiguity for an agent invoking it.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so the schema already documents all three parameters in detail, establishing a baseline of 3. The description adds useful contextual meaning for include_subfolders and the folder_id lookup path, though it does not add much about the days parameter beyond what the schema already says.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description states a specific verb and resource: it returns aggregated analytics for a folder across every video inside it. It also distinguishes the folder-level rollup from workspace-level and post-level analytics through explicit scope and examples, so an agent can identify the tool without opening the schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description gives clear usage context, including the default subfolder rollup behavior, the include_subfolders=false alternative, and the prerequisite to use list_folders for a folder_id. It does not explicitly route the agent to sibling tools such as get_video_analytics or get_post_analytics when finer-grained analytics are needed, so it stops short of full when-to-use/when-not guidance.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
