Get Mesh Status

mesh.get_status
Read-onlyIdempotent

Inspect local mesh network topology, active peer connections, and relay synchronization state. Returns connected peer counts, latency figures, and gossip protocol health. Use this tool to check node network connectivity prior to broadcasting or querying distributed telemetry. Read-only and idempotent. Live L402 Satoshi settlement: a configured NWC wallet issues the exact-priced Lightning invoice; paid execution requires confirmed incoming settlement and an invoice-bound payment proof. Handle HTTP 402, pay explicitly, then retry the identical request with Authorization: L402 :. Invoice creation alone is not payment; unavailable verification does not authorize execution.

TDQS

A3.7/5.0
Behavior3/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare readOnlyHint, idempotentHint, destructiveHint=false and openWorldHint, so safety is covered structurally; the description's 'Read-only and idempotent' largely restates that. The L402 payment block does add genuine auth/settlement context absent from annotations, but it is generic server-wide boilerplate that never states whether this specific read-only probe is priced or how much.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness3/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The first three sentences are well front-loaded and information-dense. The subsequent L402 paragraph is lengthy, generic, and disproportionate to a parameterless read-only status call, diluting the signal an agent needs to decide and invoke.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With zero params, an output schema, and full annotation coverage, the description supplies what is needed: what it inspects, when to call it, and the payment handshake. The remaining gap is that the L402 text is not tailored to this tool, leaving ambiguity about whether a read-only status call actually incurs sats.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Zero parameters, so the baseline is 4; the schema description already instructs 'Pass {} ... extra arguments are rejected,' so no additional parameter semantics are required from the description.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource set: 'Inspect local mesh network topology, active peer connections, and relay synchronization state,' which is clearly a read-only status probe. It is distinguishable from mesh.broadcast only indirectly (via the 'prior to broadcasting' clause) rather than by naming the sibling outright.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

'Use this tool to check node network connectivity prior to broadcasting or querying distributed telemetry' gives a concrete trigger condition and implies the ordering relative to mesh.broadcast. No explicit when-not-to-use or exclusion is stated, which keeps it below a 5.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
