Get one file of an opened kit

get_kit_file
Read-only

Get the content of one file listed by open_kit. Save it exactly as returned, at the same relative path inside the new kit folder. Long files come in parts: if the answer says part 1/3, call again with part 2 and 3 and append them in order without changing anything.

Input Schema

TableJSON Schema
NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
refYesThe link from the line the user pasted (https://nicetohave.app/g/XXXXXXXX-YYYYYYYYYY), or just the part after /g/ (everything, including after the hyphen).
partNoWhich part to get, for long files. Defaults to 1.
pathYesA file path exactly as listed by open_kit (e.g. CLAUDE.md, rules/FLOW.md).

A4/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations only declare readOnlyHint and openWorldHint, so the description carries the operational burden and does so: content must be saved byte-exact at the same relative path, and long files arrive in numbered parts that must be appended in order without modification. It omits error/not-found behavior and any note on whether parts are stable across calls.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Three front-loaded sentences: purpose, save instruction, then the multi-part rule. Each sentence carries distinct operational information, though the phrasing 'call again with part 2 and 3' is slightly compressed and could be read as two calls rather than two sequential values.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema, the description sensibly covers the return shape (single content payload or a numbered part) and the reassembly contract, and annotations cover read-only safety. Missing only failure semantics (invalid path, unopened kit) for a tool that depends on a prior open_kit call.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so the baseline is 3; the description goes beyond it by explaining how the caller learns that a `part` value is needed at all ('part 1/3') and how successive parts must be reassembled. It adds only marginal meaning for `ref` and `path` beyond their schema descriptions.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource ('Get the content of one file') and scopes it to files produced by open_kit, so an agent can tell it apart from get_kit/list_kits. It does not explicitly name get_kit as the whole-kit alternative, so the differentiation is implied rather than stated.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description establishes the prerequisite (the file must be one 'listed by open_kit') and gives a concrete handling protocol for the multi-part case ('if the answer says part 1/3, call again with part 2 and 3'). It stops short of an explicit when-not-to-use or a named alternative to get_kit.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
