Bind board to group

bind_board_to_group

Bind (link) a board to a Telegram group chat. The board becomes the group's primary board — bot commands in the group will act on this board. Unbinds any previous binding first. The actor must be an owner/admin of the target board. Use this when a user asks to set, link, bind, or assign a board to a chat/group. boardRef accepts: 'ns/code' (e.g. 'kangram/DEV'), a code alone (uses the active namespace), or a full URL like 'https://kangram.app/#/kangram/DEV'.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
board_refYesBoard reference: 'ns/code' (e.g. 'kangram/DEV'), 'code' alone, or a kangram.app URL.
group_chat_idNoTelegram group chat ID. Omit in a Telegram group context — the current group is auto-detected.

TDQS

A4.3/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Beyond the annotations, it discloses the hidden side effect that the previous binding is unbound first, the post-condition that the board becomes the group's primary board, and the authorization requirement (owner/admin). Those are exactly the traits an agent cannot infer from readOnlyHint=false / destructiveHint=false, and they serve as a useful warning even though the unbinding is not flagged destructive.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded with the action and its effect, followed by the prerequisite and trigger phrasing; four sentences with little waste. The closing boardRef sentence is somewhat redundant with the schema and could be trimmed.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a two-parameter mutation with an output schema absent but a self-evident result, the description covers effect, precedence (previous binding removed), authorization, and reference formats. Error behavior and return value are the only minor omissions, and the latter is low-stakes here.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so both parameters are already fully documented. The description's boardRef sentence largely restates the schema (only adding a concrete full-URL example), and it says nothing extra about group_chat_id auto-detection beyond what the schema already states, so the baseline 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description names a specific verb and resource (bind/link a board to a group chat) and states the resulting state change: the board becomes the group's primary board and bot commands act on it. That effect distinguishes it from move_board, update_board, and other board siblings.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

It gives explicit trigger intents ("when a user asks to set, link, bind, or assign a board to a chat/group") and a prerequisite (actor must be an owner/admin of the board). It stops short of naming alternatives or when-not-to-use cases, but the positive routing is clear.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
