Change a project's settings

update_project

Changes a project's settings like Settings in the app: name, account type, what it sells, topic, niche (Project); channels, audience country, time zone, fixed posting times, videos per week, videos the user films (Posting); style, video language, voice, character (Videos). With videos the user films the style stays among those that work with them (get_catalog). Send only what changes. Changing the style in Automatic when the weekly plan already has videos made in the old style needs already_made: keep them, remake them in the new style, or remove them (ask the user). To switch Automatic/Manual use set_mode. The project icon is changed in the app.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
nameNo
nicheNo
sellsNoBusiness accounts only
styleNo
topicNoWhat the channel talks about (HypeFox sets it at the first video; the user can change it)
voiceNo
countryNoISO code, or "" for everywhere (the time zone follows it)
projectNoProject id or name (optional if the user has one project)
channelsNo
characterNoCharacter id for the videos, or "none" (faceless; in Cartoon Storytime a random narrator)
time_zoneNoIANA time zone of the audience, e.g. America/New_York
fixed_timesNoFixed weekly posting times; [] = HypeFox picks the audience's best times
account_typeNo
already_madeNoOnly when changing style in Automatic with videos already made
video_languageNoNeeds a voice of that language: send voice too if the current one doesn't speak it
videos_per_weekNoHow many videos Automatic makes each week
videos_you_filmNoHow many of the weekly videos the user films with their phone and their face (To film), from 0 to videos_per_week: each comes with the script HypeFox picked (keep its hook and ending) and a time to film it by, 6 hours before it goes out; the editing is all automatic; if it doesn't arrive, HypeFox makes it with AI in the project's style. With 1 or more the style must be one of icone, collage, mappe. 0 = HypeFox makes them all. It counts from next week's plan.

A4.3/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already cover mutability and safety (readOnlyHint=false, destructiveHint=false, idempotentHint=false), so this is complementary context: the partial-update contract, the consequence of changing style in Automatic when weekly-plan videos already exist, and an explicit keep/remake/remove choice with a note to ask the user first. That is substantive disclosure about a mutation beyond what the structured fields give. The gap is the lack of any statement about the response or partial-failure behavior.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The front-loading is good: the verb and the field inventory lead, and the conditional rules follow. Every clause earns its place, including the note that the icon is app-only. It falls short of a five because a few phrasings are compressed into ambiguity, such as 'the style stays among those that work with them'.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a 17-parameter nested mutation with no output schema, the definition supplies the constraints that determine correct invocation: partial update, the already_made decision, the style compatibility rule, and pointers to set_mode and get_catalog. It is close to sufficient. Missing are permission or auth requirements and how to obtain valid voice and character ids.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 65%, and the schema itself carries the nested sells object, videos_you_film, fixed_times, and the voice/video_language dependency. The description adds field grouping and restates a few cross-field constraints, which helps orientation, but leaves name, niche, account_type, channels, style, and voice without added meaning and doesn't say what happens when fields are omitted. Baseline three is right for a definition that improves navigability without closing the coverage gap.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description uses a specific verb for a specific resource ('Changes a project's settings') and then inventories the concrete fields grouped into Project, Posting, and Videos. That, plus the reference to Settings in the app, lets an agent separate this tool from create_project, update_character, and set_mode without opening any schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

It gives explicit operating rules: 'Send only what changes' establishes partial-update use, 'To switch Automatic/Manual use set_mode' names the alternative and the condition that selects it, 'get_catalog' points to the sibling for compatible styles, and 'The project icon is changed in the app' rules out an operation this tool cannot do. The agent has both the route to use this tool and the routes away from it.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
