Convert estimate to project

convert_estimate_to_project
Destructive

Makes a project board from an accepted estimate that is not tied to a project yet: the estimate's client, its amount before tax (budget "money", the default), its hours ("hours") or no budget ("none") as the project's budget, the hourly rate when every line in hours has the same price, and one task per line (lines in hours carry their hours as the task's estimate) unless tasks is false. The estimate is then tied to that project. Counts against the board limit of the user's plan.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
tasksNoOne task per line of the estimate. Default true.
titleNoThe project's name, up to 120 characters. Default: the client's name and the estimate's number.
budgetNo
invoiceIdYesThe accepted estimate.

A4.3/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already flag this as a non-read-only, destructive mutation; the description adds important behavior beyond that: budget derivation, hourly-rate propagation, task generation, re-linking the estimate, and board-limit consumption. It still does not explicitly state irreversibility or what exactly is lost/changed from a safety standpoint.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The description is front-loaded and contains no filler; every clause carries operational meaning. However, it is a single dense sentence with several nested conditions, which reduces readability for such a side-effecting conversion operation.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a four-parameter conversion tool with no output schema, the description covers prerequisites, budget behavior, task creation, derived hourly rate, estimate re-linking, and plan limits. It omits return shape and explicit failure conditions, but the core invocation context is complete.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 75%, and the description meaningfully compensates for the undocumented budget enum by defining the money/hours/none outcomes. It also explains the tasks toggle and default task behavior, though title semantics are mostly already present in the schema.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description uses a specific verb and result ('Makes a project board from an accepted estimate') and sharply scopes the input ('not tied to a project yet'). It clearly separates this operation from siblings like create_project and convert_estimate_to_invoice.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

It states the prerequisite condition clearly: the estimate must be accepted and not already tied to a project. It does not explicitly name when to choose convert_estimate_to_invoice or create_project instead, so the alternative routing is left implicit.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
