Regenerate Packing List

packing_list_regenerate
Destructive

Regenerate a trip's existing packing checklist: replaces the generated items the user has not touched, and keeps every item the user checked, added or edited. Use only after the user asks to redo or refresh the list. With people, only those people's lists are regenerated (a person without a list gets a new one); a trip with no list yet gets a new one. Provide the trip_id from trips_list. Tineo builds the list on its servers with its AI model provider, sending the trip's title, dates, destinations, itinerary items, weather forecast, any context_notes, and each person's age band and notes (never their name).

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
peopleNoOptional. One personalized list per person (max 6), titled with the person's name.
trip_idYesTineo trip ID (from trips_list).
context_notesNoOptional packing-relevant details the user asked to include, such as planned activities or special gear. Pass only what the user wants reflected in the list. Never include health conditions, medical details or other sensitive personal information.

A4.6/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare destructiveHint=true and non-idempotency, but the description adds genuinely new behavior: exactly what is destroyed (untouched generated items) versus preserved (user-checked/added/edited items), and that generation happens on Tineo's servers via an AI model provider. It even discloses the data payload sent and the privacy exclusions (names never sent), which no annotation conveys.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Front-loaded with the core action and merge rule, followed by usage gating, scoping, and the data-handling note. Dense but each sentence carries distinct information; the final data-flow sentence is long yet earns its place given the privacy implications.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a destructive, non-idempotent, no-output-schema tool, the description covers everything an agent needs: trigger condition, merge behavior, people scoping, trip_id sourcing, and server-side processing with privacy exclusions. Nothing material is left unspecified.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema coverage is 100%, so the baseline is 3, but the description adds real meaning: trip_id's source (trips_list), and that passing 'people' regenerates only those people's lists while creating new ones for list-less people. It reinforces rather than merely repeats the schema's own descriptions.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource ('Regenerate a trip's existing packing checklist') and immediately defines the merge semantics: untouched generated items are replaced while checked/added/edited items are kept. This uniquely distinguishes it from the sibling generate_packing_list, which an agent can now tell apart without opening either schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives an explicit trigger condition ('Use only after the user asks to redo or refresh the list') plus scoping rules for people and list-less trips, and points to trips_list for the trip_id. It stops short of naming generate_packing_list as the alternative for a first-time list, which is the key routing decision.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
