Ask a business for a quote

request_quote
Idempotent

Ask a business's own inbox for a price for what your person describes: only for a listed business with an inbox, and only when your person asked you to contact it. The business answers by email, at the address your person agreed to give (consent). Keep the access_token for your person: it reads the request and its quote.

Input Schema

languageNoThe language your person wants the answer in, as a tag like en, pt or pt-BR.
quantityNoHow many, when it is a number of things.
needed_byNoThe date your person needs it by, as YYYY-MM-DD.

TDQS

A3.9/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already declare openWorldHint=true and idempotentHint=true, but the description adds genuinely non-structured context: a real message leaves the system to a third party's inbox, the reply arrives by email at the consented address, and nothing is sent without consent. It also flags that an access token is retained to read the request and its quote, which is behavioral information the annotations cannot convey.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Three compact sentences, with the eligibility constraint and the consent gate front-loaded before the mechanics of the answer. The closing sentence about the access_token is slightly compressed and takes a second read, but nothing is padding.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

An output schema exists, so return values need not be explained, and the description covers the preconditions, the side effect (email to the business) and the consent requirement for an 8-parameter open-world mutation. It leaves the access_token's role slightly ambiguous, but the essential calling conditions are complete.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100% and every field is documented in the schema, so the description need not restate them. It reinforces the domain provenance (as search_businesses or get_business gave it) and the consent gating, but adds little semantic detail beyond the schema's own text. Baseline 3 applies.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource: asking a business's own inbox for a price, with the scope condition that it must be a listed business with an inbox. That is enough for an agent to see it differs from ask_business or request_booking, though neither sibling is named explicitly, so the differentiation is inferred rather than stated.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives two explicit gates: only a listed business with an inbox, and only when the person asked you to contact it, plus the consent requirement enforced by the schema's const true. Usage is clear, but it never routes the agent to an alternative (e.g. request_booking for bookings, ask_business for a general message), so the exclusions stop short of a full when/when-not/alternatives statement.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
