add_journey_phase

Shortcut to create a journey phase (Awareness, Consideration, Decision, ...). A phase is a kind='journey' / journeyType='phase' block. orderInPhase is computed automatically if absent. Meant to precede the creation of steps that will reference phaseId.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
idYesUnique ID of the phase (e.g. 'phase-awareness').
nameYesName of the phase (e.g. 'Awareness', 'Onboarding').
orderInPhaseNoHorizontal position (0 = first column). If absent, appended on the right.
expectedProjectIdNoUUID of the project targeted by THIS call. ACTUALLY targets this project instead of the session project. Refused without changing anything if access is not granted.

A3.8/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations already cover the safety profile (readOnlyHint=false, destructiveHint=false, openWorldHint=false), and the description adds a genuine behavioral fact beyond them: orderInPhase is auto-computed when omitted. It does not disclose return values or access requirements, keeping it out of 5 territory.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Four short sentences, front-loaded with the verb and resource, and each sentence carries distinct information (domain semantics, auto-order behavior, sequencing). No filler, though the kind/journeyType clause is slightly dense.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness3/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With full schema coverage and annotations on safety, the definition is largely callable. However, since there is no output schema, the description never says whether the created phase (and its phaseId) is returned — a notable gap given the stated intent that later steps reference phaseId.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so the schema already documents all four parameters including expectedProjectId's retargeting behavior. The description only re-touches orderInPhase auto-computation and references phaseId (not a parameter here), adding little beyond the schema — the baseline 3.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb+resource (create a journey phase) and disambiguates from the crowded add_* sibling family by defining the underlying object (kind='journey' / journeyType='phase' block). It does not name which sibling to use for other block types, but the purpose is unmistakable.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines4/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives real sequencing guidance: 'Meant to precede the creation of steps that will reference phaseId,' which tells the agent when in a workflow to invoke it. No explicit when-not or named alternative, so it falls short of a 5.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
