pm_log_time

Log a time entry against a task. timeSpent is in minutes (0 to 10080 — 7 days max). startedAt is an ISO-8601 instant marking when the tracked work started. notes is optional (max 10000 chars). The user is set server-side from the JWT — do NOT pass userUuid. API-key scope: time:write.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
notesNoOptional notes (max 10000 chars)
accountNoMulti-account auth only: name of the account from X-Dutify-Accounts to use for this call. Ignored in single-account mode (X-API-Key header). When multiple accounts are configured and this is omitted, the call fails with ACCOUNT_REQUIRED listing the available names. list_accounts never requires a selection.
startedAtNoISO-8601 instant (e.g. 2026-04-14T09:00:00Z)
timeSpentYesMinutes spent (0–10080, max 7 days)
workspaceNoWorkspace identifier or exact name for this call. Overrides the configured workspace. For personal keys, discover candidates with list_workspaces and select explicitly. Does not change other calls or expand a workspace key's access.
taskIdentifierYesTask identifier (tsk_…)

TDQS

A4/5.0
Behavior4/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Beyond annotations, the description discloses that the user is set server-side from the JWT, warns not to pass userUuid, and names the required API-key scope time:write. It also gives validation bounds for timeSpent and notes. It does not describe response behavior or duplicate-entry handling, but annotations already cover the non-read-only and non-idempotent nature.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The description is concise and front-loaded, beginning with the core action. Each sentence adds either a constraint, parameter clarification, or auth requirement without filler.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

For a mutation tool with rich schema coverage and annotations, the description supplies key auth and identity details plus parameter limits. It is slightly incomplete because it does not describe the return value or duplicate-entry behavior, and no output schema is present.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100%, so parameter documentation is already strong. The description restates the meaning of timeSpent, startedAt, and notes, which adds little beyond the schema, and it does not clarify taskIdentifier, account, or workspace semantics beyond what the schema provides.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description states a specific verb and resource: 'Log a time entry against a task.' This clearly distinguishes creation from sibling tools such as pm_list_time_entries and pm_delete_time_entry. An agent can identify the operation without opening the schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines3/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description implies usage through 'Log a time entry,' but does not explicitly say when to use this tool versus alternatives like pm_list_time_entries or pm_delete_time_entry. No prerequisites or exclusion conditions are stated beyond API-key scope.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
