devtune_get_positioning

Read-onlyIdempotent

Read positioning match counts and share over 30 or 90 days. Totals cover the current competitor set, identified by current_set_id, which is null when no set is recorded. Each daily trend point includes competitor_set_id and is_current_set to identify the set measured and whether it is current. A zero competitor_set_id means no set was recorded. Keep points from different sets separate, even on the same day, so competitor changes show as breaks rather than jumps. Shares are null below ten named-product assignments. Several and nobody counts are excluded from the denominator. Each statement carries prior_status for the previous window of the same length (prior_window): when it is comparable, prior holds that window's totals and share_of_statement, so report the change; when it is competitor_changed or incomplete, prior is null and no change should be stated.

A3.5/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Annotations only cover the safety profile (read-only, idempotent, non-destructive), and the description adds substantial context beyond that: current_set_id null/zero semantics, per-point competitor_set_id and is_current_set, the rule to keep different sets separate, null shares below ten assignments, denominator exclusions, and prior_status/prior_window comparability logic. This is rich disclosure an agent could not derive from structured fields.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The purpose is front-loaded in the first sentence, and the remaining sentences carry real information about return semantics rather than filler. It is dense and slightly run-on, but every sentence earns its place given the absence of an output schema.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness4/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema, the description does the heavy lifting on return values: set identity, trend-point fields, null-share thresholds, and prior-window comparison rules are all covered. Input parameters, however, remain unexplained, leaving a modest gap.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters2/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 0% for three parameters. The description indirectly explains the window (30/90 days) but says nothing about the 'intent' or 'platform' parameters, so it only partially compensates for the coverage gap.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb (read) and resource (positioning match counts and share) with an explicit scope (30 or 90 days). It is clear what the tool returns, though it never distinguishes itself from adjacent siblings like devtune_get_competitive_position or devtune_list_positioning_statements.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines2/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

There is no when-to-use guidance and no mention of alternative tools for positioning or competitive data. The description focuses entirely on interpreting results, not on selecting this tool over siblings.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
